This Date In Royals History--1984 Edition: June 11
A travel day for the Royals, plus the first batch of All-Star vote totals are released.
The Royals had a day off as they traveled to Seattle for a three-game series with the Mariners. In a bit of odd scheduling, the team was flying to Seattle for the three games and then would head back to Kansas City for three games before going back to the West Coast for series with Oakland and California.
In baseball news, the first vote totals for the American League All-Star team were announced, and Kansas City’s own George Brett was the overall leading vote-getter, despite missing the first six weeks of the season with a knee injury. The Detroit Tigers, running away from the rest of the league with a 44-14 record, had three players atop their positions in the voting: catcher Lance Parrish, second baseman Lou Whitaker, and center fielder Chet Lemon. Other position leaders were first baseman Rod Carew (California), shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. (Baltimore), and outfielders Reggie Jackson (California) and Dave Winfield (New York).
Today’s birthdays: Odalis Perez (1978), Bobby Keppel (1982), Josh Newman (1982)

I'm sure every baseball fan of our generation expresses this at some point, but I miss the old paper ballots they used to give you at the park. Don't get me wrong, All-Star voting now is a lot easier, but it felt more special back then when you might only get to cast one ballot all year.
